LOUIE MOSKOWITZ

Louie Satchmo Moskowitz is a photographer and artist rooted in Southern Humboldt County, California. Born in Los Angeles and raised in the small town of Redway, Louie comes from a family of artists, including his father, Stewart Moskowitz master airbrush painter, and his maternal grandfather, ceramist Michael Frimkess. His work is shaped by a lifelong connection to this remote and tightly-knit community. Moskowitz photographs with a Leica and prints on Ilford in his darkroom. He documents the everyday lives of people, landscapes, and quiet rituals of rural Northern California. His images are raw, honest, and often deeply personal — not just records of a place, but reflections of a life lived within it. Whether capturing fog-wrapped highways, neon-lit liquor stores, or familiar local faces, his work tells the story of a community in transition, with a deep sense of care and presence behind every frame. Moskowitz lives in Redway with his wife and a yard full of animals. His work has been exhibited locally, featured in independent publications, he self-published a photography book, “Built to Last” focused on life in Humboldt County and his photos grace the pages of his mother, Lelia Moskowitz’s fiction novel about Southern Humboldt titled,“Growland”.
